Training Program for the Ministry of Personnel Management Republic of Korea

National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) conducted a five-day training program for young leaders of the Korean Government from November 25th to 29th, 2024, upon the request of the Ministry of Personnel Management (MPM) Republic of Korea. A total of 16 Millennials/Gen Z public servants including 2 members from MPM participated in the program.

The theme of the training was “Public Management and Leadership”. During this program, lectures and discussions were held on topics of "Japanese Government and Reform" "Cybersecurity" "EBPM (Evidence-Based Policy-Making)," "Zero Carbon", and “Theory and Practice of Knowledge Creating Leadership” which were led by Professor Hirofumi Takada, Vice President and Director of the Executive Development Center for Global Leadership, GRIPS, Professor Daisuke Miyamoto, Professor Tadashi Yokoyama, Professor Kazuaki Takahashi from GRIPS, and Associate Professor Ayano Nishihara, Dean of the College of Business, Rikkyo University.

In relation to the lecture themes, the delegation visited the Digital Agency and the Ministry of the Environment. They had the lectures given by the officials from the Agency and the Ministry about the current status/future initiatives of Digitalization and Decarbonization in Japan. During the Q & A sessions, various questions were actively asked by both parties, making the visits very meaningful and productive.

Additionally, the delegation had separate discussion sessions with GRIPS international students and Japanese students over the two days. Each group discussed topics of "DX in Public Administration" and "Demographic issues", and gave a group presentation at the end of the sessions. All the participants actively exchanged their opinions, and some said they needed more time for further discussions.

On the final day of the program, Professor Hirofumi Takada, as the Program Director, gave a follow-up lecture and a wrap-up, then the program finished with the certificate award ceremony. Throughout the five-day period, the delegate showed a very positive attitude towards acquiring practical knowledge from the program.
