GRIPS and the University of Colombo co-hosted a webinar on Japanese foreign policy on March 3, 2023 with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The webinar, which attracted about 40 participants, was moderated by Dr. Pradeep N’ Weerasinghe of the University of Colombo.

GRIPS Prof. Andrea Pressello gave a lecture entitled, “Modern Japan’s foreign policy: change, continuity, and challenges” in which he discussed Japan’s foreign policy from the Meiji Restoration to the present day, Japan’s role in the international society and current challenges.

During the discussion session, participants raised various questions such as Japan’s national interest, changes in public opinion in Japan, and cooperation between Japan and Sri Lanka.
