Webinar cohosted by GRIPS and the International Longevity Centre (ILC-UK): " Getting to grips with ageing: How Japan and the UK can learn from each other."

GRIPS and the International Longevity Centre co-hosted a webinar on February 9, 2023 with the generous support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

First, GRIPS Prof. Taichi Ono explained the aging of the population in Japan and the UK, and long-term care insurance in Japan. Following Prof. Ono’s lecture, Prof. Yoko Matsuoka of Tokyo Kasei University presented examples of community support in aging areas in Japan. From the UK, Ms. Arunima Himawan, Senior Health Research Lead of ILC-UK, explained index of healthy aging, and Professor Judith Phillips of the University of Stirling gave a presentation on UK initiatives for healthy aging. The webinar, which attracted about 90 participants, was moderated by Ms. Lily Parsey, Head of Projects of ILC-UK.

The discussion session covered a wide range of topics, such as gender balance in aging societies and volunteer activities by the elderly in Japan.
