GRIPS and the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) in Thailand co-hosted a webinar on September 29, 2022 with the generous support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The webinar, which attracted about 30 participants, was moderated by GRIPS Prof. Patarapong Intarakumnerd.

GRIPS Prof. Takayuki Hayashi gave a presentation entitled, “STI Policy and Evaluation in Japan” in which he discussed Japan's Science, Technology and Innovation Basic Plan, evaluation of STI programs, details of Society 5.0 and the Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies (ImPACT) Program. Following Prof. Hayashi’s lecture, Mr. Phattaraphon Sarthamabot and Ms. Chaniga Laitae of NXPO gave a presentation on STI policy in Thailand.

During the discussion session, participants raised questions about the promotion of high-risk/high-impact R&D, and research evaluation.
