Associate Professor Akio Yamazaki receives the SEEPS Young Achievement Award
The Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies (SEEPS) is a scientific association which aims to (a) contribute to the theoretical and empirical research of environmental economics and policy studies; (b) improve communication and contact among teachers, researchers and students in environmental economics and policy studies; and (c) promote international scientific cooperation in environmental economics and policy studies.

The SEEPS Awards are presented to members for their outstanding contributions, papers, and books. One SEEPS Award, the Young Achievement Award, is presented to young authors for their publications (academic papers or books) in order to encourage innovative academic achievement in the field of environmental economics and policy studies. In FY2023, GRIPS Associate Professor Akio Yamazaki received the Young Achievement Award for his paper, “Environmental taxes and productivity: Lessons from Canadian manufacturing.”

Associate Professor Yamazaki, a specialist in environmental economics, joined GRIPS in 2019. He received an M.A in Economics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Calgary. His current research interests are mitigation and adaptation issues related to climate change and global warming policy. Recently, he has made media statements on carbon pricing, a topic currently under discussion in Japan.
