The 139th GRIPS Forum “The Great East Japan Earthquake and the Mission of Japan”
At the 139th GRIPS Forum on May 22, 2017, Dr. Hideo Tokuyama, Adjunct Professor of GRIPS, Former Administrative Vice-Minister of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Adviser of Dentsu, gave a lecture titled “The Great East Japan Earthquake and the Mission of Japan”.

Abstract
Dr. Tokuyama holds a rare experience of securing transportation network and rescuing human lives at initial movement of the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, as a Director-General of Tohoku Regional Bureau of MLIT.
In this session, he shares a factual picture of his leadership at the disaster scene, as well as explores the lessons learned and the mission of Japan which has overcome numerous world-class disaster risks.

Speakers’ Profile:
Graduated from the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, and has a doctorate in Engineering from the University of Tokyo. After serving in the Ministry of Construction and US-DOT (Department of Transportation in the United States of America), he held positions in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) as a Director-General of Tohoku Regional Bureau, a Director-General of Road Bureau, and a Vice Minister. He has been an Adjunct Professor of GRIPS since 2016.
