At the 132nd GRIPS Forum on November 14, 2016, Mr. Yuichiro Takenami, Vice President and Senior Officer, Bridgestone Corporation, gave a lecture titled “Bridgestone’s global management and innovation strategy”.

Abstract

Bridgestone, the world’s top manufacturer of tires and rubber, is pursuing management reform and innovation towards becoming a “truly global company”.

Speakers’ Profile:

Mr. Yuichiro Takenami graduated from Kyoto University Graduate School with a master’ s degree in 1981 and Stanford University Graduate School with a master’ s degree in 1986. Beginning in 1981, he served in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, including secondment to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Chicago Center and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Through this service, he acquired? rsthand policy-making experience in areas including technology, IT, standard certi cation, intellectual property, and international trade affairs. At the Ministry, he was appointed to the positions of Director of the Technical Regulations, Standards and Conformity Assessment Policy Division; Director of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy Division; and Director-General of the Trademark, Design and Administrative Affairs Department of the Japan Patent Office. He joined Bridgestone Corporation in 2009. At present, he is in charge of areas including innovation, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and IT.
