The 125th GRIPS Forum “Global Views on Energy”

At the 125th GRIPS Forum on June 20, 2016, Dr. Michelle Michot Foss,?Chief Energy Economist and Program Manager, Bureau of Economic Geology’s Center for Energy Economics, The University of Texas gave a lecture titled “Global Views on Energy”.

Abstract

People try to build paradigms, but fail. In part, this is because analysis and modeling are so fraught with difficulty – and this is a key point. It is a most imperfect world when it comes to: data availability and quality; discerning the correct factors and influences that drive energy supply and demand; and removing bias – in particular, political bias – associated with analysis and projection.

Dr. Foss also thinks the biggest problem is that people love to ignore “facts” and prefer to build “?fictions” based on beliefs.?
