The 95th GRIPS Forum ”The Ethics and Economics of Climate Change: Findings from the IPCC”

  • Abstract

The latest IPCC assessment includes a significant component on the ethical dimensions of climate change as well as the more practical economics of climate change. ?This talk addresses the question of what ethics and economics have to contribute to the climate change debate and summarizes the findings in the latest IPCC assessment on this issue, released in April 2014.

Prof. Charles D. Kolstad of Stanford University is an internationally known environmental economist with research interests are in information, uncertainty and regulation; he does much of his applied work in the area of climate change and energy markets. Currently he is a Convening Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize) and Editor of the journal Review of Environmental Economics & Policy. He is a former president of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) and has authored more than 100 publications. Prior to joining Stanford, Prof. Kolstad was on the faculty of the University of?California, Santa Barbara. He is a University Fellow at Resources for the Future?(Washington) and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic?Research (Cambridge).?
