The 78th GRIPS Forum “A Time for Reform of Japan-ASEAN Policy Coordination”
- Abstract
Amidst the fragile world economy, Asia is still the world’s growth region. To further strengthen economic competitiveness in Asia as well as to recover Japan from stagnate economic situation, there needs to be a new reform of economic coordination. Under the new Japanese prime minister, ASEAN-Japan economic relationship could be restructure to create mutual economic supports. The lecture wishes to recommend the reforms necessary for mutual economic benefits.

At the 78th GRIPS Forum on May 27, 2013, Dr. Thanong Bidaya Senior Fellow of GRIPS; Former Minister of Finance, Thailand gave a lecture titled “A Time for Reform of Japan-ASEAN Policy Coordination.” He is famous for having been Thailand’s Minister of Finance during the financial crisis in 1997. He talked about the role of ASEAN, Japan and Thailand. Many questions were raised at the Q&A session, and it was a very fruitful lecture for all participants.
