At the 43rd GRIPS Forum held on 27 December 2010, GRIPS invited Ms. Kimie Iwata, Vice President, Shiseido Company, Limited, to deliver a lecture entitled “Empowerment of women in Japanese companies.”
Ms. Iwata worked at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and contributed in the field of labour, women’s policy, and employment issues. After that, she entered Shiseido and was put in charge of the company’s work-life balance policies.
At the forum she gave some concrete examples of efforts implemented by Shiseido to actively promote women. She talked about what is needed for the empowerment of women and the role of Japanese companies and government. She also answered many questions respectfully during the Q&A session. The forum was fruitful for the audience.
