The 31th GRIPS Forum“Challenges for Japan in the Changing Global Economic Governance”
At the 31st GRIPS Forum held on 10 May 2010, GRIPS invited Mr. Toshihiko Fukui, Former Governor of the Bank of Japan, to deliver a lecture entitled “Challenges for Japan in the Changing Global Economic Governance.”
Mr. Fukui talked about what will be needed to solve the current world economic recession. The things needed to accomplish sustainable economic growth are, according to Mr. Fukui, developing common awareness of the changing tide of the world economy, completely disposing of bad dept and excess investments and borrowing, and competing actively in the global markets.
At the Q&A session, Mr. Fukui respectfully answered questions about ideas to prevent an asset bubble, how the taxation system can work in an aging society with fewer children, and so on.
