At the 19th GRIPS Forum, GRIPS invited Mr. Shoichiro Suzuki, Chairman of Oji Paper Co. Ltd., Mr. Tsuyoshi Takagi, President of Japan Trade Union Confederation, and Prof. Naohiro Yashiro, International Christian University, to discuss the topic of "Restructuring the Japanese Employment System". GRIPS Vice President Prof. Hiroko Ota served as the moderator, asking for the panelistsandrsquo; opinions on various problems such as pay disparities, and the increase of non-regular workers. Opinions were expressed on the ways in which labor adjustment can take place without lay offs and the necessary creation of a more flexible labor market. Despite the limited time, the discussion was very lively and many issues were covered.
