GRIPS is collaborating with FPCI (Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia) in convening the FPCI-GRIPS Public Forum, an open public webinar series where experts and policymakers can discuss the most pressing issues of international affairs and foreign policy with researchers and students across Southeast Asia and Japan.

At the 2nd forum of the year 2023, we will focus on “Indo-Pacific’s Economic Framework: How RCEP, CPTPP, and IPEF Foster Regional Resilience”.This forum will discuss how the existing economic frameworks in the Indo-Pacific such as RCEP, CPTPP and IPEF could foster regional resilience; what are the existing measures to protect rules-based international trade order in the region; and what are the existing regional organizations, ASEAN, and strategic minilateral groupings such as QUAD's contribution to building economic resilience.

Experts from Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan will be invited to discuss current issues and future prospects.

1．With the establishment of RCEP, CPTPP, and IPEF and the geopolitical disruption from the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the US and China strategic competition, are the mega FTA manage to protect or reduce the impact of the geopolitical disruption to regional economic resiliency?

2. Economic resiliency is also associated with a resilience supply chain. China is the global hub for supply chain, and we are seeing a slowing down of China economic. On the other hand, decoupling on strategic technologies such as microchips is starting with the recent US President executive order to ban American investment on microchips industry in China, what is you comment on this development?

3. How do you see the role of regional organization such as ASEAN and its mechanism help to build regional economic resilience? And how regional organization like ASEAN can cooperate with the existing strategic minilateral grouping such as the QUAD?

4. How far could the mega FTAs equip the region in facing contemporary challenges such as climate change, green energy, and technological advancement?

5. How could the existing economic frameworks and initiatives bridge the development gap in the region and ensure no countries are left behind?

6. What do you think are the biggest issues the region must anticipate when it comes to building economic resilience in the coming years?
