If your family plans to stay in Japan for more than 90 days, you need to acquire a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for a Dependent Visa, which can only be obtained for your dependent spouse and children.

International students already in Japan can apply for the Certificate of Eligibility (dependent) at the Immigration Bureau on behalf of their family members.

You must also secure accommodation that is designed for a family.?

Procedure

- Download the application form from Application for Certificate of Eligibility.
- Prepare the necessary documents.
- Apply for a COE at the Immigration Bureau.
- Receive the COE from the Immigration Bureau.
- Send the COE via international express mail to your family in your home country.
- With the COE, family members can apply for a visa at the Embassy of Japan in your home country.

- A copy of your spouse’s/children’s Passport (photo page)
- A copy of your Residence Card (both sides)
- One Photo for each member of your family (4 cm x 3 cm)*

- Certificate of Scholarship
- A copy of the official marriage certificate in your native language
- A copy of the official marriage certificate translated into English
- A copy of the official birth certificate in your native language
- A copy of the official birth certificate translated into English
- Self-addressed and stamped envelope** (required amount of postage stamps for registered mail)
