After an immigration examination, a residence card will be issued at the airport to foreign nationals who are allowed entry with a mid-to-long-term resident status.

- The residence card serves as your primary identification in Japan. International residents are required by law to carry their residence cards at all times.
- A residence card states information, such as your name, date of birth, nationality, address in Japan, residence status, and period of residence.
- The residence card expires on the same day that your status of residence ends.
- When making any changes to your name, address, etc., you need to report those changes to the Immigration Bureau within 14 days.

Residence Registration (Jumin-toroku)

Within 14 days from the date of your arrival, you will need to go to your local city office with your residence card to register as a resident. If you change your address in Japan, you will be required to notify the local city office within 14 days before or after the change of address.
