Speaker, Ms. Abigail Adomako Boadi (Ghana)

She explained the culture and social background of Ghanaian women such as coming-of-age rituals in Ashanti tribe (such as swallowing whole eggs without breaking it or choking it!), and there is pressure around marriage and childbirth (encouraging prolific birth). On the other hand, many women successfully balance home and work life, thanks to strong connections among women and collective support. Childcare is often shared among extended family members and community women. Additionally, Ghana has a cooperative system called ‘SUSU’ that addresses various aspects, including financial support, through self-help and solidarity. However, challenges persist, such as gender inequality in household chores and child marriages, which hinder women’s access to education.?
